Likelihood and Least-squares Approaches to the M-cornered Hat
A simple model of the m-cornered hat estimation problem is set up and solved by the method of maximum likelihood. The method is compared by simulation to a leastsquares method of Barnes and is shown to be inferior to it on the basis of mean square error. A bootstrap method of computing estimator performance is presented.
متن کاملThe Three-hat Problem
Many classical puzzles involve hats. The general setting for these puzzles is a game in which several players are each given a hat to wear. Associated with each hat is either a color or a number. Every player can see the color or number of everyone else’s hat but not his own. The players are then trying to figure out the colors or the numbers on their own hats. The Three-Hat Problem is one of s...
متن کاملRESONANCE FREQUENCY ANALYSIS FOR IMPLANT STABILITY MEASUREMENTS. A review
The resonance frequency analysis (RFA) technique for implant stability measurements was developed by Meredith and coworkers more than 20 years ago. RFA makes use of a transducer (peg), which is attached to the implant and excited over a range of frequencies by electro-magnetic waves to measure the resonance frequency (RF) of the transducer. The underlying RF measurements in Hz are translated to...
متن کاملThe Accuracy of Current GNSS Signal Sources for Radio Occultation Missions
GNSS RO utilizes the various navigation satellite systems as signal sources for atmospheric remote sensing. The frequency stability of the signals emitted by GNSS satellites is tied to the stability of the atomic frequency standards (AFS) they carry onboard and is thus critical to the quality of the atmospheric profiles derived from the occultation measurements. Because of the variety of AFS us...
متن کاملThe Matrix Pencil Technique for Three-Dimensional Frequency Estimation
This paper deals with the problem of estimating the three-dimensional (3-D) frequency using Matrix Pencil (MP) technique. A signal modeled by the sum of 3-D complex exponentials is considered and then a MP method is applied directly to this signal on a snapshot-by-snapshot basis and hence is computationally quite efficient to estimate the 3-D frequency with high resolution. #on-stationary in th...
